When I was but a child, and sleepy time came after a long day of playing outside or gaming on my state of the art Playstation 1, I always found it quite difficult to get to sleep, I'd fidget and my mind would race and I just couldn't do it. That is until one day when, after a long day of doing the kind of thing kids do, I laid my head on my toy story themed pillow and once the lights were out, I saw something that took my breath away. My ceiling had become the solar system, with stars, planets, and the moon sprinkled generously across the whole room, there were hundreds of tiny glowing starts staring back at me. At first I was perplexed and amazed, I couldn't get my head around it - but then instead of thinking about them, I just started to look at them, the tiny constellations they made and if I could see any recognisable shapes. Before I knew it, I was asleep.
The stars became a source of comfort to me; laying down at night and imagining I was out among the real stars made sleep come effortlessly because I felt like I was already dreaming. A sense of wonder was brought by my mum simply sticking a bunch of glow in the dark shapes to my ceiling which seems simple but it made all the difference to tiny Alf. Last year, I decided to buy some for my current bedroom, and I know what you're thinking, I'm an adult, why would I want some silly sticky stars on my ceiling? Well let me tell you, reader, Last year was oh so bleak, and to be honest, for less than a tenner, I jumped at the idea of bringing that sense of wonder back. The nostalgia I felt when I laid my head down on my pillow (sadly not Toy Story themed anymore) was unprecedented. I found myself once again looking for constellations and before I knew it, I was drifting off into nostalgia fuelled dreams.
Having had these stars up for about a year now, I can say with confidence that everyone should have them in their own bedrooms. Whether you're a child or an adult, these stars are brilliant, maybe it draws from an innate animal instinct of sleeping under the actual stars while being really cosy in your bed, maybe it's just because it takes your mind off of other less star related things, either way, they're a must-buy for me. Not only are they cost effective (mine have all stayed up for over a year at this point and they were literally the same price as a couple drinks down the pub), but they also reinsert a small sense of magic and light excitement into your life and who on earth wouldn't want that?
Now I know what you're thinking - "Why would I want stars on my ceiling? they wouldn't even glow in the day time!" but that's where you're wrong! I mean they don't glow of course but you don't even see them during the day (I mean if you have a black ceiling, of course you'll see them, but if it's white, you'll be a-ok!) so every night when you turn the light off to go to sleep, you'll look up and be graced by the view of a beautiful night sky. A few times I've drifted off while staring up at my personal constellations and slipped into dreams where I'm flying among them out in space, completely weightless and worry-less.
I know it sounds like I'm sponsored by 'Sticky Ceiling Star Inc.' but I'm not, I just really love these little stickers. It may just be because I had them when I was a kid but I do know, every night when I turn off my light, look up and say to my girlfriend "stars are out!", the groan that implies 'I'm so fed up of that joke' brings me an unmatched feeling of joy. You can feel this joy as well if you give in to your more childish impulses, then all you need is some light up trainers and a micro scooter to start living the life 7-year-old-you wanted you to be living by now.
